10 Leading Finance And Banking Apps For iPhone And iPad

Yesterday Apple announced that they reached 40 billion downloads. They also stated that they paid out $7 billion to app developers. That’s a pretty healthy ecosystem and a small part of that development involves online banking and finance.

One of my favorite blogs to cover that space is Netbanker. Jim Bruene does a terrific job of showing how the world of online banking is actually interesting. In many cases, in my humble opinion, it is also scary. If you think about your financial data and how secure it needs to be, and how perhaps it is not always secure, then the work that banks and their tech teams do in developing web-based and mobile applications is hugely important.

Netbanker recently released its year end report: Online and Mobile Banking Forecast and that was part of how he decided to take a look at what was happening in the Apple iTunes store. He highlighted the Top 50 iPhone and iPad Apps in the Finance Category  and you can click that title to see the full list. I’m only listing 10 because you should visit his site and check out the other cool stuff he covers in addition to seeing if your bank or finance tool is on this list. You might find a better app than the one you’re using now

In addition, even though I’m not a finance or bank guy, I learn a ton from his work that helps me in other industries entirely. I recommend Netbanker to small and big business owners on a regular basis.

    Company iPhone Rank iPad Rank
    PayPal 1 none
    Chase 2 3
    Bank of America 3 1
    Mint (Intuit) 4 5
    Wells Fargo 5 2
    TurboTax (Intuit) 6 31
    Capital One 7 none
    TaxCaster (Intuit) 8 16
    Credit Karma 9 none
    American Express 10 7

Netbanker has an extensive archive and you’ll find he’s covered it if it pertains to banking or finance technology. For example, if you’ve been interested in virtual mobile wallet technology for your business, such as Square or the iPhone Passbook, Netbanker is on it. Many times these technologies impact the small or mid-sized business on main street, although they don’t focus on business owners. But you will find technology info that may help you pick the right bank just by hanging out on the site.

I’m pretty sure, though, that the Paypal, Bank of America, or Intuit development teams are not raking in any of those app fee payouts from Apple.
