    China to prevent wage defaults for migrant workers

    16 january 2013 BEIJING — The government will carry out a campaign to prevent wage defaults for migrantworkers from rural areas, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said Thursday. The ministry will enhance its efforts to solve disputes involving overdue wages for migrantworkers and use information technology to make labor arbitration more efficient, ministryspokesman Yin Chengji said at a press conference. Labor arbitration centers investigated 479,000 labor disputes involving 660,000 workers in thefirst nine months, up 11.9 percent and 19.4 percent year on year, respectively, according todata from the ministry. Among these cases, 457,000 have been settled, the ministry’s figures showed. During the same period, labor departments inspected 1.5 million employers to find and redresslabor problems involving 85 million employees.…

    16 january 2013 BEIJING — Eighteen of the mainland’s 31 provincial-level regions raised the minimum monthlywage by an average of 19.4 percent year-on-year by September. The southern manufacturing hub of Shenzhen has the highest minimum monthly wage of 1,500yuan (about $240.18) and Beijing has the highest minimum per-hour wage of 14 yuan,according to a Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security press conference onThursday. By the end of September, 20 provinces, regions and municipalities had issued salary guidelinesfor the year and the benchmark line grew about 14 percent, according to the ministry’sspokesman Yin Chengji. He said the ministry will speed in setting up an appraisal system on minimum wages. It will alsoexplore ways to issue guidelines for minimum wages in key industries, and plan to carry out trialsalary surveys in companies.…

    China’s social insurance funds revenue up 24.6%

    16 january 2013 BEIJING — The gross revenue of China’s social insurance funds totaled 2.04 trillion yuan($323.68 billion) in the first nine months, up 24.6 percent from the same period last year,official data said on Thursday. Gross expenditure of social insurance funds increased 23.2 percent from the same period lastyear to reach 1.59 trillion yuan, according to figures revealed by the Ministry of HumanResources and Social Security. China’s social insurance funds contain five parts, the basic endowment insurance for the old-ages, basic medical insurance, unemployment insurance, work-related injury insurance andmaternity insurance.
